Meet Morisa

👋 Hellooooo! 

I’m Morisa, the founder of Bits & Bridges.

After getting my master's degree in engineering at Stevens, my career has taken me everywhere from the e-commerce space at Daily Harvest to managing entire engineering teams at Shopify.

For any techy folks reading this: I’m also a backend engineer with a love of Python and I believe local, small language models are the future 😉

You can find me doing coursework for continuing education (gripping my second espresso), doing random household chores for my nonna, and volunteering for my community in Princeton, NJ.

Meet Greg

Hi, I'm Greg. Bits & Bridges' figurative plumber.

I've always had an idealistic view of technology. I believe that it should uplift people, unshackling us from the rote and the mechanical parts of our lives so we can invest in intellectual and creative endeavors. Having watched technology instead mold us in its image for decades, I've decided to take matters into my own hands and build human-first technology that helps people in need.

When I'm not at my computer, you can find me training for triathlons (mostly olympic distance), doing small woodworking projects, and dusting off my old banjo to relearn two-finger technique. Like Morisa, I volunteer here in Princeton.

I love reading novels. Some recent favorites are Robin Sloan's Penumbraverse books and The Briar Club by Kate Quinn (though that one took a few chapters to get going).

What is Bits & Bridges?

Bits & Bridges is an effort to apply human centered AI & technology to fill in gaps in your nonprofit mission. Speeding up the work that slows you down or bridging barriers preventing you from reaching new communities. 

Your community work is important, and our goal is to connect your ideas to the practical applications around AI so you can better serve the communities that you center.

Technology is meant to help serve your mission, not overshadow it.

What is "human-first" AI?

We're still sharpening exactly what we mean by that, but it's something like AI that:

  • respects human rights (no mass data collection, no surveillance)
  • runs at human scales (your laptop, not a small city)
  • makes computers more approachable (interact with them on your terms, not theirs)
  • liberates people instead of replacing them (do the mechanical work, not the creative work)

By being thoughtful about the kinds of models we use and the sorts of problems we apply them to, we can build AI that puts people first.
